Mushroom Tincture Sets of 3 and 5: How to Build a Routine

How do you use a set of 3 or 5 mushroom tinctures without it turning into a cupboard of half-finished bottles? Treat it as a routine, not a cocktail. Introduce the bottles one at a time, give each a fixed slot in your day, and know how long each will last. And if your set includes the Amanita muscaria tincture, don't dose it like the others. It needs a much lower start, counted in single drops.

Our Set of 3 holds 50 mL each of Amanita muscaria, lion's mane and cordyceps tinctures. The Set of 5 holds lion's mane, cordyceps, turkey tail, reishi and chaga. Start one bottle at a time, adding the next after 3–7 days. For the non-psychoactive tinctures, about 1 mL (20–30 drops) a day makes a 50 mL bottle last around 50 days. Lion's mane and cordyceps suit mornings, reishi suits evenings. The Amanita tincture starts at 1–3 drops, not 1 mL.

This guide is about the two sets we sell: the Set of 3 tinctures and the Set of 5 tinctures. If you're still deciding whether tinctures suit you at all, read our tincture vs capsules vs powder comparison first.

What Is in Each Set?

Each set contains full 50 mL bottles of single-species tinctures, not a pre-mixed blend. That matters: you can use each mushroom at its own time and dose, and stop any one of them without stopping the rest.

The two sets suit different people. The Set of 3 includes a psychoactive mushroom, so it's for adults who already know they want to try Amanita alongside two daytime mushrooms. The Set of 5 has no psychoactive bottle at all. It's the broader daily kit, and it's also the better saving.

What happens when one bottle runs out before the others? You don't need to buy another set. Every tincture in both sets is also sold on its own, in 50 mL and 100 mL sizes, in our tinctures and extracts collection. Many people find after the first round that they only reorder two or three of the five.

Why Introduce the Bottles One at a Time?

So you know what each one does to you, good or bad. If you start five tinctures on the same morning and get a stomach upset, a rash or poor sleep, you can't tell which bottle caused it. If you feel great, you can't tell which one to buy again.

A simple schedule works well:

  • Days 1–3: the first bottle only, at a low dose.
  • Days 4–7: add the second.
  • Each 3–7 days after that: add the next.

With the Set of 5, you'll have everything running within three to four weeks. Start with the mushroom that matters most to you. If your main goal is focus, open the lion's mane first. If it's sleep, open the reishi. Our beginner's guide explains why one change at a time gives you clearer answers.

When Should You Take Each Tincture?

Match each one to the part of the day it suits. This is a sensible default, not a rule backed by timing trials. None of these mushrooms has been tested for "best time of day":

TinctureSuggested slotWhy
Lion's maneMorningTaken for focus; not sedating
CordycepsMorning or before exerciseStudied for exercise capacity
ChagaAny timeMild; often taken in a morning drink
Turkey tailAny timeNo timing reason either way
ReishiEveningMainly used for stress and sleep
Amanita muscariaEvening, on days you don't drivePsychoactive and can cause drowsiness

A two-slot routine keeps it manageable: a morning glass of water with two or three tinctures, and an evening one with the rest. Bottles you keep together are bottles you remember. Our lion's mane tincture guide and reishi tincture guide cover each of those two in more depth.

How Long Will the Bottles Last?

For the non-psychoactive tinctures, it depends almost entirely on how many mL a day you take. The Amanita bottle is a different calculation, because it's dosed in drops.

Daily amountOne 50 mL bottle lasts
1 mL (20–30 drops)about 50 days
1 mL twice a dayabout 25 days
Amanita, 40-day pyramid course (1 up to 20 drops and back)one course uses about 17–21 mL

At 1 mL a day, every non-psychoactive bottle runs for about seven weeks. That's a useful length: most human trials of these mushrooms ran for 4–16 weeks, so one bottle is roughly one fair trial. Note the date you opened each bottle on its label, and you'll know when to judge it.

The Amanita bottle lasts much longer. A typical 40-day pyramid course uses well under half of it. So in the Set of 3, the lion's mane and cordyceps will usually run out first.

How Should You Dose the Amanita Tincture in the Set of 3?

Separately, and much lower than the other two. The Amanita muscaria tincture contains muscimol, which acts on the brain. Lion's mane and cordyceps don't. One dose instruction can't sensibly cover both kinds of bottle.

Our guide to using Amanita tincture starts at 1–3 drops in half a glass of warm water, adding one drop a day, with most people settling between 10 and 20 drops. Follow that, not a flat mL figure. Count drops; don't estimate.

A few rules apply on any day you take it:

  • No alcohol, sedatives or sleep medicines. Our article on mushroom supplements and alcohol explains why.
  • No driving or safety-critical work.
  • Not in pregnancy, while breastfeeding or for anyone under 18.

Taking it on the same day as lion's mane or cordyceps has no known interaction. But because Amanita can cause nausea and drowsiness, start it on a quiet evening, not on the morning you open the other two.

Who Should Be Careful With a Tincture Set?

The same people who'd be careful with any single tincture, plus anyone taking several regular medicines. More bottles means more chances of an interaction. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist first if you take:

  • Blood thinners such as warfarin or apixaban. Reishi, chaga and lion's mane all carry a bleeding caution.
  • Diabetes medicines. Cordyceps, reishi and chaga may lower blood sugar.
  • Immunosuppressants. Turkey tail, reishi and cordyceps are studied for immune effects.
  • Any medicine that reacts with alcohol, such as metronidazole or disulfiram. All the tinctures have an alcohol base.

On alcohol: five tinctures at 1 mL each add up to roughly 0.15–0.2 UK units a day. That's small, but it isn't zero. Our medication interactions guide lists the rest.

How Should You Store the Set?

Upright, caps tight, in a cool, dark cupboard. Keep the bottles together so the routine stays visible. The alcohol base preserves them well, and our product pages give a shelf life of up to three years unopened. Don't refrigerate; some compounds can settle out in the cold.

A little cloudiness or sediment is normal in dual-extracted tinctures. Shake each bottle before use. Mark the opening date on each label, so you can see which ones you're actually using and which ones you're not. Our storage guide covers the details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix all the tinctures in one glass?

Yes, for the non-psychoactive ones. There's no known interaction between lion's mane, cordyceps, turkey tail, reishi and chaga. Mixing them does make it harder to spot which one causes a side effect, so introduce them one at a time first. Keep the Amanita tincture separate and dose it by the drop.

How much of each tincture should I take?

For lion's mane, cordyceps, turkey tail, reishi and chaga, about 1 mL (20–30 drops) once or twice a day. At 1 mL a day, a 50 mL bottle lasts about 50 days. The Amanita muscaria tincture starts at 1–3 drops a day and builds slowly.

Which set should I buy, 3 or 5?

The Set of 5 suits most people: five daily mushrooms, nothing psychoactive, and a saving of about 19% on buying the bottles singly. Choose the Set of 3 only if you specifically want the Amanita muscaria tincture alongside lion's mane and cordyceps. It saves about 6%.

Are the tincture sets a good gift?

The Set of 5 is the safer gift, since it has no psychoactive bottle. Only give the Set of 3 to an adult who has said they want Amanita. Include a note that each bottle has its own dose, and that the Amanita one starts at a few drops.

Is a tincture set better than a blended tincture?

For learning what works for you, yes. Separate bottles let you dose each mushroom on its own and stop any one of them. A blend fixes the ratio for you and hides which ingredient does what. Our article on blends vs single species covers the trade-off.
