Forest Cardio Power is the only blend we sell with just two ingredients, and it's the one whose label you can least reliably read. The word "extract" appears once and changes the curcumin dose by roughly thirty-fold. Everything else — whether the turmeric does anything, whether the Cordyceps claim holds up — hangs on that single unresolved word. Here's the arithmetic, and the honest answer underneath it.
Forest Cardio Power combines turmeric with Cordyceps militaris at 0.5 g of mix per capsule. Curcumin's cardiovascular evidence is real but modest — systolic pressure down 2.02 mmHg and flow-mediated dilation up 2.00% across 35 trials (Dehzad 2024) — and it concentrates in bioavailability-enhanced formulations above 1 g daily. This product contains no absorption enhancer. The Cordyceps blood-pressure claim has no human randomised trial behind it in any species, and the famous VO₂max data used a different organism entirely.

What's Actually in Forest Cardio Power?
Turmeric and Cordyceps militaris, at 0.5 g of combined powder per capsule, 120 capsules per jar. That's it — and the simplicity is a genuine advantage over our other blends, which spread four to six species across the same half-gram.
The product summary elsewhere on the site names Cordyceps, Reishi and Chaga, which doesn't match the ingredient statement. Take the ingredient statement as authoritative: it's the only line that specifies what's in a capsule, and the detailed benefit section beneath it describes exactly two ingredients. We're fixing the summary. If you own a jar, the printed label is the final word.

What Does Each Capsule Deliver?
Two capsules give 1 gram of mix. The ratio between the two ingredients isn't stated, so an even split — roughly 500 mg each — is the fairest assumption available. Then comes the problem.
Turmeric can mean two very different things. Dried rhizome powder carries about 2–3% curcuminoids. A standardised extract carries 95%. The label uses "extract" in one sentence and "powder mix" in another, and those two readings are not close together.

One word on a label, a thirty-fold difference in dose. On the extract reading, four capsules land essentially at the threshold where trials start reporting blood-pressure effects. On the powder reading, you'd need well over a hundred capsules a day. No consumer can tell these apart by looking, and that is the single most useful thing to know about this product. The Cordyceps side is easier to pin down and harder to justify.

Why Absorption Matters More Than Dose Here
Curcumin is famously badly absorbed. In the study that made piperine standard practice, curcumin given alone couldn't be detected in most human blood samples at all — adding piperine raised measured bioavailability by 2,000% at 45 minutes (Shoba 1998). That headline number deserves a caveat: it's measured against a baseline of nearly nothing, and it has never been independently replicated at that magnitude.
But the direction is not in doubt, and it shows up in the outcome data. The 2025 umbrella review of curcumin and blood lipids — 26 meta-analyses covering 72 randomised trials — found the largest effects specifically in bioavailability-enhanced formulations taken for eight weeks or longer (Unhapipatpong 2025). The blood-pressure literature says the same thing: significant systolic reductions cluster in trials using nano-curcumin or curcumin combined with piperine above 1 g daily.
Forest Cardio Power contains no piperine, no phospholipid complex and no nanoparticle carrier. So even on the generous extract reading, at the four-capsule ceiling, it delivers a trial-sized dose in the form that trials found least effective. That's the central finding of this article, and it isn't a small one.
Does Curcumin Actually Help Your Heart?
Yes, measurably — and less than the marketing implies. Pooling 35 randomised trials, curcumin or turmeric lowered systolic pressure by 2.02 mmHg, diastolic by 0.82 mmHg, and improved flow-mediated dilation by 2.00% (Dehzad 2024). It also cut VCAM-1, an adhesion molecule tied to early vessel damage, while leaving pulse-wave velocity unchanged.
Those are real, consistently-directed findings. They're also small. A 2 mmHg systolic drop is roughly a tenth of what a first-line antihypertensive delivers, and this is a population-level average, not a promise to any individual.
The lipid picture is similar in shape. Across 72 trials, curcumin lowered triglycerides by 13.15 mg/dL and LDL by 5.84 mg/dL, and raised HDL by 2.4 mg/dL (Unhapipatpong 2025). Only the triglyceride and LDL changes reached what the authors called a minimally important difference, and the certainty ratings were low for triglycerides and very low for LDL. For scale, spirulina's lipid meta-analysis found an LDL reduction seven times larger — covered in our spirulina benefits article — which is worth knowing before you pick a supplement for cholesterol specifically.
The Blood Pressure Claim, Checked
The label credits Cordyceps with regulating blood pressure. No randomised controlled trial has tested Cordyceps militaris on blood pressure in humans. Not a small one, not an inconclusive one — none.
The claim traces to rodent work, where Cordyceps extracts do lower pressure in hypertensive rats and reduce cardiac hypertrophy over long administration. Cochrane registered the human question back in 2010, for Cordyceps sinensis rather than militaris, and the high-quality trial evidence it set out to weigh still hasn't arrived.
So if this product moves your blood pressure, the turmeric is doing it. That's a slightly awkward conclusion for a formula whose mushroom is the headline ingredient, but it follows directly from what exists in humans versus what exists in rats.
What About Oxygen Use and Endurance?
Here the evidence is better, and it belongs to a different organism. The classic result — VO₂max and anaerobic threshold rising over six weeks at 3 g daily — used Cs-4, a fermented mycelial product derived from Cordyceps sinensis (Chen 2010). This jar contains dried Cordyceps militaris fruiting bodies. Different species, different part of the organism, different manufacturing route.
The closest militaris-containing result is Hirsch 2017, where 4 g daily of a mushroom blend raised VO₂max by 4.8 ml/kg/min against placebo's 0.9 after three weeks. Two caveats matter: it was a multi-species blend, so militaris can't be isolated, and only 10 of the 28 participants continued to the three-week point where the VO₂max effect appeared.

The Safety Point Nobody Puts on the Label
Turmeric supplements have a liver-injury signal, and it's growing. The Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network published ten cases of turmeric-associated hepatotoxicity, six of them enrolled since 2017 (Halegoua-DeMarzio 2023). Injury was hepatocellular in nine of ten, median age was 56, and eight were women.
Now the part that makes this genuinely interesting. Seven of the ten carried the HLA-B*35:01 allele, two of them homozygous, which points at an immune-mediated mechanism rather than simple dose toxicity. And three of the implicated products also contained piperine — the same piperine that makes curcumin work. Raising systemic curcumin is precisely what turns a poorly-absorbed spice into both an active compound and a plausible hepatotoxin.
Which means the absence of an absorption enhancer in this formula cuts both ways. It's the main reason to doubt the product will do much. It's also the main reason it's unlikely to hurt you. Those two facts are the same fact, and no label states either one. Turmeric is not a free lunch dressed as a spice, and neither is the thing that makes it work.
Who Should Take It, and Who Shouldn't?
It suits someone who wants a mild, cheap, daily cardiovascular-leaning supplement alongside the things that actually move these numbers — exercise, diet, sleep. At €49 for 120 capsules, two a day is about €0.82 daily over a 60-day supply, the lowest per-day cost of any blend we sell. The curcumin evidence, small as it is, points the right way on triglycerides and vessel function.
Several groups should skip it. Anyone on anticoagulants or facing surgery: curcumin has antiplatelet activity and Cordyceps is often listed alongside it, a pattern covered in our Cordyceps side effects guide. Anyone with gallbladder disease or bile-duct obstruction, since turmeric stimulates contraction. Anyone with existing liver disease or a history of supplement-related liver injury, given the DILIN cases. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, where turmeric at supplemental doses lacks safety data and Cordyceps militaris has essentially none.
And it isn't the right buy if you have a diagnosed cardiovascular condition. A 2 mmHg average is not a treatment, and the honest advice is a doctor rather than a jar. If cholesterol specifically is the target, the comparison in the section above should point you elsewhere.
How Should You Take It?
One to two capsules with water, with a meal containing fat. Curcuminoids are fat-soluble, so taking them with food genuinely helps — the one absorption lever available to you when the formula doesn't include a chemical enhancer. Black pepper on the same meal is a reasonable, low-cost addition, though if you have any liver concern, the section above is the reason to think about it first rather than assume more is better.
The label suggests morning or an hour before physical activity, and four capsules is the stated ceiling. Give it eight to twelve weeks. Both bodies of evidence here are slow: the lipid effects concentrate in trials of eight weeks or longer, the blood-pressure effects in trials of twelve weeks or longer, and the Cordyceps exercise data needed three to six weeks. Nothing about this product acts like a stimulant, and expecting it to will lead you to stop before anything measurable could have happened.
Take a baseline first. Blood pressure at home over a week, and a lipid panel if cholesterol is why you're here. Effects of this size aren't perceptible — you cannot feel 2 mmHg — so without numbers before and after, you have no way to evaluate it at all. Does Cordyceps lower blood pressure?
Not on human evidence. No randomised controlled trial has tested Cordyceps militaris on blood pressure in people. The claim comes from rodent studies, where extracts do reduce pressure in hypertensive rats. Should I take black pepper with it?
It would raise absorption substantially — piperine increased measured curcumin bioavailability by 2,000% in Shoba 1998 — but three of the ten DILIN turmeric liver-injury cases involved products containing it. Taking capsules with a fat-containing meal is the lower-risk way to improve absorption.
Is turmeric safe for the liver?
For most people at food and modest supplement doses, yes. But the Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network documented ten cases of turmeric-associated hepatotoxicity, six since 2017, nine of them hepatocellular. Avoid it if you have liver disease, and stop if you develop jaundice, dark urine or unexplained fatigue.
