Amanita Pantherina

Amanita Pantherina

Panther cap in capsules, dried fruits and powder — carefully sourced and lab-tested.

Amanita Pantherina

The Amanita pantherina collection gathers the panther cap in three formats — pre-measured capsules, whole dried fruits and finely milled powder. Panther cap is a close relative of Amanita muscaria and shares its muscimol chemistry, but it is typically more potent, so accurate dosing and correct identification matter more here than with almost any other mushroom we carry.

Every batch is harvested by experienced foragers, dried to preserve its active profile, and lab-checked. Because potency runs high, we strongly recommend reading before you buy: our identification guide, the breakdown of its active compounds, and the potency and risk guide explain what makes this species distinct. If you are deciding between species, pantherina vs muscaria compares them side by side.

Capsules are the easiest starting point because each one is pre-measured; dried fruits and powder give you flexibility once you understand the mushroom. Whichever you choose, review onset and duration and who should avoid it first. This is a mushroom for the informed buyer — take the time to learn it.

Pantherina is not a brown muscaria. This is the single most important thing to understand before buying. Amanita pantherina, the panther cap, typically carries a higher concentration of ibotenic acid and muscimol than Amanita muscaria, and it is correspondingly less forgiving. Weight for weight, dried pantherina is the more potent material. Anyone arriving here from the fly agaric should not assume the two behave the same way.

Identification and sourcing. Amanita pantherina has a brown to olive-brown cap with white warts in concentric rings, white gills, and a distinctive collar-like ring at the stem base. The genus Amanita also contains the deadliest mushrooms known — the death cap and destroying angel — which is why we do not encourage self-foraging without formal mycological training. Our material is wild-harvested in the Ukrainian Carpathians, hand-sorted and verified to species before processing, and our lab certificates are published. The panther cap fruits in a narrower seasonal window than the fly agaric, which is why availability is limited by what the forest produces.

Why drying matters chemically. Drying converts a portion of the ibotenic acid into muscimol through decarboxylation, a process dependent on both heat and time — too hot degrades muscimol, too brief leaves more ibotenic acid unconverted. Our caps are dried at low temperature over an extended period for this reason, not for appearance.

Safety and legality. Amanita pantherina is a toxic mushroom. Ibotenic acid is a neurotoxin, and adverse effects — nausea, vomiting, muscle twitching, confusion, dysphoria, and at higher amounts delirium and loss of consciousness — are documented. Potency varies between batches and seasons, and individual sensitivity varies just as widely, so no quantity can be assumed safe from someone else's experience. Not for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, or with a history of seizures, liver or kidney disease, or a psychiatric condition. Never combine with alcohol, sedatives or other psychoactive substances, and never drive after use. Legal status varies by country and changes — verify your own jurisdiction before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Both contain muscimol and ibotenic acid, but Amanita pantherina (panther cap) is generally more potent than Amanita muscaria (fly agaric) gram for gram. It also looks different — brown cap with white warts rather than the classic red. Because of the higher potency, careful dosing is especially important. Our pantherina vs muscaria article compares the two in detail.
Capsules are the most beginner-friendly because each capsule contains a pre-measured amount, removing the need to weigh material. Dried fruits and powder offer more flexibility but require accurate scales and a good understanding of the mushroom.
Panther cap is potent and demands respect. Correct identification, accurate dosing and awareness of contraindications are essential. Read our potency and risk guide and the article on who should avoid it before ordering, and never combine it with alcohol or other sedatives.
Store dried fruits, powder and capsules in an airtight container away from light, heat and humidity. Kept cool and dark, the material stays stable for well over a year.
We ship discreetly to most countries. A small number of regions restrict Amanita species — check your local regulations and our shipping restrictions page before ordering.
