Phallus Impudicus (Phallus impudicus, the common stinkhorn) is one of Europe's stranger fungi and one of the most persistent in northern and eastern European folk practice. Our collection offers it in three forms: whole dried fruiting body for infusions and cooking, a tincture extracted from fresh material, and a concentrated 10:1 extract powder. All three are made from correctly identified young-stage material, never mycelium on grain.

A note on the evidence, up front. This species is far less studied than reishi, chaga or turkey tail. There is laboratory work on its polysaccharides and interest in its anti-inflammatory compound profile, and some cell-line research exists, but human clinical evidence is limited. We would rather say that plainly than imply more than exists.

The mushroom itself. Stinkhorn emerges from a soft white "egg" sitting at or just below soil level and expands into its mature form with extraordinary speed — sometimes within hours. The mature fruiting body produces a dark olive spore slime whose powerful carrion odour attracts flies, which disperse the spores; that smell gives the species both its common name and its epithet. Material collected at the right point carries none of that odour — it is earthy and mushroom-like, closer to a dark forest stock.

Choosing between the three formats. The dried fruiting body is the traditional and most economical option per gram, and the only one you can cook with as whole pieces — but it needs a 20–30 minute simmer before each use and the strength varies batch to batch. The tincture is the most convenient: measured by the drop, quickly absorbed, easy to travel with, though its alcohol base rules it out for some. The extract powder sits between the two — concentrated like the tincture, alcohol-free like the dried material, dissolving in seconds into coffee, tea or broth. Identification and sourcing. Stinkhorns have look-alikes, and other Phallus and related genera vary in edibility, so species identification is not a step to take casually. Every batch we sell is verified before processing and collected at the young stage while the material is still firm. The compounds studied in this species are water-soluble, and there is no well-characterised alcohol-soluble fraction that would justify a second stage. Adding one just to print "dual extract" on the label would be marketing rather than chemistry.
