Sleep & Relaxation

Reishi, ashwagandha, blue lotus and evening-friendly amanita for winding down and restful sleep.

Sleep & Relaxation

Our sleep and relaxation collection brings together the calming mushrooms and botanicals people use to wind down in the evening — reishi (capsules and tincture), adaptogenic ashwagandha, traditional blue lotus, and evening-friendly Amanita muscaria formats. These are the opposite of a stimulant stack: they are meant for the end of the day.

Reishi is the anchor of this collection — an adaptogen long associated with stress resilience and sleep quality. Amanita muscaria has its own folk tradition around rest, which we cover in amanita and sleep and improving sleep with amanita. For a broader view, see our roundup of the best mushroom supplements for sleep and general sleep-hygiene tips.

None of these products is a sleep medication, and results vary — good sleep still depends on routine, light and stress. Reishi and ashwagandha are usually taken in the evening; if you are combining amanita formats, follow our dosing guides and never mix with alcohol. Looking specifically for reishi in every format? See the dedicated reishi collection.

Two different approaches here. This collection mixes gentle adaptogens with a genuinely potent botanical, and they should not be treated as one category. Reishi and ashwagandha are the mild, cumulative options — taken daily over weeks, they are associated with stress resilience and easier winding down, and neither produces an acute sedative effect. Amanita muscaria is an entirely different proposition: a toxic, psychoactive mushroom with real risks, not a herbal nightcap.

If you want the gentle route, start with reishi or ashwagandha. Reishi is traditionally an evening mushroom — most people find it settling — and its benefit depends on daily use over weeks rather than any single dose. Ashwagandha's species name somnifera means "sleep-inducing" and traditional use leans the same way; clinical work on it typically runs 8 to 12 weeks. Neither will do much on the first night, and that is the correct expectation.

Blue lotus sits between the two: mild, traditionally used for relaxation and dream quality, but poorly studied in humans and controlled in Poland, Russia and Latvia. Effects are generally subtle, and anyone expecting something dramatic will be disappointed.

Contraindications that matter for an evening routine. Do not combine any of these with alcohol, sedatives or benzodiazepines — effects can compound, and this applies to blue lotus and Amanita muscaria especially. Ashwagandha is contraindicated in pregnancy, may raise thyroid hormone levels, and is immune-stimulating. Reishi may increase bleeding risk and interact with anticoagulants. Amanita muscaria is toxic: ibotenic acid is a neurotoxin, its legal status varies by country, and it is unsuitable for anyone pregnant, under 18, or with a history of seizures or a psychiatric condition. Never drive after taking it.

Frequently asked questions

No. These are food supplements and traditional botanicals, not medicines, and they are not intended to treat insomnia or any sleep disorder. They are chosen because they are traditionally associated with calm and evening use. Good sleep also depends on routine, light exposure and stress management.
Most people take reishi and ashwagandha in the evening, an hour or two before bed, because both are associated with winding down rather than stimulation. Neither is a fast-acting sedative — they are typically taken consistently over time. See our reishi timing guide.
Amanita muscaria has a folk tradition around rest, but it is a potent mushroom that requires careful dosing and correct preparation. Read our amanita safety and dosing guides first, start low, and never combine it with alcohol or other sedatives.
Blue lotus is a traditional relaxation botanical, not a mushroom. It is included here because it is commonly used as part of an evening wind-down routine. As with anything new, introduce it on its own first.
Introduce one item at a time so you can judge how each affects you before combining. If you take prescription medication — especially sedatives or blood-pressure drugs — check with your doctor before adding reishi or ashwagandha.
