Chaga Mushroom Gift Set
What's Inside
Chaga Dried Chunks (50g) — whole wild-foraged pieces for brewing Chaga tea or long-simmered decoctions, low-temperature dried at 40–50°C to preserve betulinic acid, melanin, and antioxidant polyphenols.Chaga Capsules (120 caps) — 0.5g of finely milled wild Chaga powder per capsule, with no mycelium on grain, no fillers, and no binders. A convenient daily dose with no preparation.
Chaga Tincture (50ml) — double-extracted from fresh wild fruiting bodies with alcohol and hot water, capturing both fat-soluble and water-soluble compounds in a single dropper.
Why This Set
Chaga is not a true mushroom in the everyday sense — it is a sclerotium, a hard mass of fungal tissue that grows on living birch and draws compounds from the tree itself. That structure is why it behaves differently from cap-and-stem mushrooms in the kitchen. It is dense, woody and cannot simply be steeped like tea leaves; it needs extended heat, or alcohol, to give anything up.The three formats reflect three ways of solving that problem. The chunks are the traditional route and produce the best-tasting result. The capsules skip preparation entirely, which is what most people actually sustain day to day. The tincture is the most concentrated and the fastest. Together they cover the whole routine rather than forcing a guess about which one the recipient will stick with.
How to Use Each Format
Brewing the chunks: simmer 3–5g of chunks in roughly a litre of water at 60–80°C for at least an hour — longer is better, and some people keep a pot going for several hours. The liquid darkens to a deep reddish-brown resembling strong black tea, with a mild, earthy, faintly vanilla-like flavour and none of the bitterness of Reishi. Chaga is unusually forgiving here: the same chunks can be re-simmered four or five times before they are spent, so a 50g bag lasts far longer than it first appears.Avoid a hard rolling boil. Very high heat degrades some of the compounds you are trying to extract, which is why traditional preparation is a long, low simmer rather than a fast boil.
Capsules: 1–2 capsules daily with food.
Tincture: 1–2 droppers under the tongue, or added to coffee, tea or a smoothie. The flavour is mild enough that it disappears into most drinks.
What to Expect and When
Chaga is taken for antioxidant and immune support, and like other functional mushrooms it is a slow, cumulative thing rather than something with an immediate felt effect. Daily use over weeks is the pattern that traditional use and modern practice both assume.Unlike Reishi, Chaga is not particularly settling, so it suits morning use. Many people simply replace one daily coffee or tea with a mug of Chaga brew, which is an easy substitution to sustain because the flavour is genuinely pleasant rather than medicinal.
Quality and Sourcing
Real wild Chaga has a black, cracked, charcoal-like exterior and a distinctly orange-brown interior. That colour contrast is the first thing to check — a uniformly brown product suggests something other than properly harvested birch Chaga.Source species matters: Chaga draws betulin and betulinic acid from the birch it grows on, so birch-grown material is the standard. Ours is wild-foraged from Carpathian birch forests by collectors who harvest sustainably, taking only part of each conk and leaving the rest to regrow. Cultivated Chaga grown on artificial substrate does not develop the same profile, which is why we do not sell it.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place (0–25°C), away from direct sunlight. Keep the chunks somewhere genuinely dry — as a dense woody material, Chaga will absorb moisture from humid air over time. Chunks and capsules keep for two years; the tincture keeps longer.Who This Suits
A good introduction for someone who likes the ritual of brewing something, since Chaga tea is the most approachable of the medicinal mushroom preparations by taste. It also suits anyone already drinking it who has never tried the concentrated formats.Chaga is high in oxalates and is not recommended for people with a history of kidney stones or kidney disease. It may also interact with anticoagulant medication and with diabetes medication, as it can affect blood sugar. Speak with your doctor first if any of these apply. This product is a food supplement and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is wild-foraged Chaga different from cultivated? Yes. Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a parasitic fungus that grows on living birch trees and can't be commercially cultivated the way gourmet mushrooms can — it has to be foraged. This set is wild-foraged from Carpathian birch forests.
How do I use the dried chunks versus the capsules? The dried chunks are simmered into a slow-brewed tea or decoction — the traditional preparation, and the format most associated with Chaga's folk use. The capsules are for a quick daily dose with no preparation.
What should I look for in Chaga quality? Look for chunks that are dark and dense, not light or crumbly, and sourced from live (not dead) birch trees — dead-tree Chaga has degraded actives. Low-temperature drying at 40–50°C preserves betulinic acid and melanin content.
