Dried Carpathian fly agaric material is infused into unrefined virgin coconut oil over a long, gently heated maceration, then filtered. The choice of fat matters: several of the compounds of interest in Amanita muscaria are more soluble in oil than in water, which is why a fat-based preparation exists at all and why traditional topical preparations across northern Europe used animal fats and butter for the same purpose.
