Amanita regalis powder

$59/50g

Amanita regalis powder is royal fly agaric — the rare, liver-brown northern relative of the red fly agaric — dried at low temperature and finely milled into a uniform botanical powder. Every batch is wild-harvested in the Ukrainian Carpathians, verified to species before processing and sealed fresh. Nothing is added: no fillers, carriers, anti-caking agents or preservatives, only milled Amanita regalis.

What Is Royal Fly Agaric?

Royal fly agaric (Amanita regalis) is a northern European Amanita with a liver-brown to bronze cap, pale yellowish warts and a stout, ringed stem. For a long time it was filed as a brown variety of Amanita muscaria; it is now recognised as a species in its own right. It grows in mycorrhizal partnership with spruce and pine in cool boreal and montane forests, and it fruits in far smaller numbers than the red fly agaric — which is why it is one of the least available Amanita species on the market.

Like Amanita muscaria, it contains ibotenic acid and muscimol. Published analyses of Amanita regalis are few, and compound levels vary between specimens, seasons and sites, so its potency should not be assumed to be higher or lower than that of fly agaric. Our royal fly agaric explained article covers the taxonomy and chemistry, and Amanita regalis vs muscaria sets the two species side by side.

Why Choose Amanita Regalis Powder Over Whole Caps

The case for powder is uniformity. Whole dried caps differ in size, density and moisture from one specimen to the next, so two caps of equal weight are not equivalent material. Milling a batch homogenises it: every gram you weigh out is drawn from the same blended source rather than from one unpredictable cap. For anyone who measures carefully, that reproducibility is the whole point.

Powder is also easy to weigh in small, finely adjustable amounts on a precision milligram scale, and it disperses evenly, which broken caps do not. If you would rather inspect the mushroom yourself, choose our dried Amanita regalis caps; if you want pre-measured portions with no taste, the Amanita regalis capsules are filled from the same milled material. The formats compared guide weighs powder, capsules and caps against each other.

Carpathian Sourcing and Milling Process

Our royal fly agaric is gathered by experienced foragers in the higher conifer stands of the Ukrainian Carpathians, where the species fruits in a short late-summer and autumn window. Each mushroom is hand-sorted and verified to species before any processing — once material is milled, a buyer can no longer confirm by eye what it is. That is also why our lab certificates are published.

The caps are dried slowly at around 45–50°C and only then milled. Drying first matters for two reasons. Chemically, heat and time convert part of the ibotenic acid into muscimol through decarboxylation, while excessive heat degrades it; our drying and decarboxylation guide explains the process, which applies across the Amanita genus. Practically, milling damp material produces heat and paste rather than a fine, free-flowing powder.

Seasonal and Limited Availability

Royal fly agaric does not appear reliably every year in the way the red fly agaric does. Harvests depend on rainfall, temperature and the condition of the host forest, so stock is limited to what each season actually produces. Our habitat, season and identification guide explains where and when it fruits and how it is told apart from similar species in the field.

Storing Amanita Regalis Powder

Powder has far more surface area than whole caps, so it takes up moisture much faster once opened. Reseal the pouch tightly after every use, or transfer it to an airtight, opaque glass jar, and keep it in a cool, dry, dark place. In a humid climate, add a food-safe desiccant sachet. Stored this way, the powder stays stable for up to 24 months.

Clumping, dampness or a musty smell means moisture has got in — discard the powder rather than trying to dry it out again. Weigh and transfer it in a well-ventilated space, avoid inhaling airborne dust, and keep it well out of reach of children and pets.

Legal Status of Amanita Regalis

The legal status of Amanita regalis generally follows that of other Amanita species and varies by country — unregulated in much of Europe and most of the United States, controlled in the Netherlands, Romania and Australia. Because royal fly agaric is named in legislation less often than Amanita muscaria, its position can be ambiguous in some jurisdictions. Checking the law where you live before ordering is your responsibility; our legal status by country guide is a starting point, not legal advice. We do not ship to countries where it is prohibited.

Safety and Contraindications

Royal fly agaric is a toxic mushroom. Ibotenic acid is a neurotoxin, and documented adverse effects include nausea, vomiting, muscle twitching, confusion, dysphoria and, at higher amounts, delirium and loss of consciousness. Amanita regalis has been studied far less than Amanita muscaria, so less is known about its compound profile and batch-to-batch variability — that uncertainty is a reason for more caution, not less. Our onset and duration guide describes what is and is not known.

Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, or if you have a history of seizures, liver or kidney disease, or a psychiatric condition. Do not combine with alcohol, sedatives, benzodiazepines, GABAergic drugs, MAOIs or other psychoactive substances. Never drive or operate machinery after use.

If severe symptoms follow ingestion, contact emergency services or your national poison control centre immediately and say what was taken. Frequently Asked Questions

What is Amanita regalis powder made from? Only dried, milled royal fly agaric (Amanita regalis) from wild Carpathian harvests. There are no fillers, carriers, flow agents or preservatives.

How is royal fly agaric different from the red fly agaric? It is a separate species with a liver-brown to bronze cap and pale yellowish warts that grows mainly in cooler northern conifer forests. It contains the same main compounds, ibotenic acid and muscimol, but has been studied far less, so its potency cannot be assumed from fly agaric data.

Why buy powder instead of whole caps? Milling homogenises a batch, so every measured amount comes from the same blended material. Whole caps vary in density and moisture from one specimen to the next, which makes them less uniform to weigh.

How should I store the powder once opened? Reseal it tightly and keep it in a cool, dry, dark place, ideally in an airtight opaque jar with a desiccant in humid climates. Discard it if it clumps, turns damp or smells musty.

Is Amanita regalis legal where I live? Its legal status varies by country and changes over time. Check the legal status section above and your own local law before ordering — we do not ship where it is prohibited.
